Greene, a high school outfielder, was drafted 39th overall in the supplemental round as part of the compensation for the loss of Jayson Werth. He has reportedly received a $1MM bonus, which is the largest amount so far for any player chosen outside of the first round. The Phillies’ first-round pick, #33 overall, went to the Rangers for Cliff Lee.
This is pretty exciting news for the Phillies as they have added a player with a lot of characteristics similar to Jonathan Singleton.
If you want to know more about Larry Greene check out my article I wrote on him just after the draft.
Side Note –
The Phillies have a little less then 24 hours to sign their second round pick Roman Quinn before they have to report their signings to the Commissioner’s office. Major league teams have until 9 p.m. tonight to sign players they drafted in June or else they lose the rights to that player.
